Such a romp that flood turned out to be! It rather left me in the mood for further enrichment. I've seen paid a visit or two to our new facility, the "CTS," it's called? Just the workout I needed.

Would be more enjoyable with a partner, however.

[Reaver has actually been quite happy to be back to civilization and has been resting when not exercising.]

Monsieur Tennant, I do believe you stated you craved a demonstration.
tatty_bye: (knows something you don't)
[At first the world behind Reaver seems nothing but green, in tall, chest-high jungle flora, but closer inspection would reveal these to be blades of rather normal grass, impressively thick, and there are larger, mountainous things that take up much o the background. The sound of animals and insects and the rustling of wind are all telling signs that he is in the CES. He examines his pistol, bemused.]

Well, this certainly has potential, doesn't it? I did come in to do some hunting, after all.

Mister Tennant, check in.

[Spam for Arthur]

[His correspondences complete, Reaver closes his communicator and tucks it away, starting back toward where he remembers the path being. It has seen enough traffic between changes that at a normal size it would have been simple to find. It's not so much harder, here. After all, the flood waters could have made him a good deal shorter.]

So you do mean to go through with this, Admiral. I was beginning to wonder.

[Private to Lark Tennant]

It would appear that our gracious host means for us to get better acquainted. I am, as the announcement stated, Reaver, and I'll be guiding you for the remainder of your little "journey" while here.

So tell me: what have your explorations of the Barge taught you thus far?

[Filtered away from Merlin]

...I'm aware some of you have gone and returned without memory of this place, but have recovered as well. I won't trouble you long, but I wondered if you might describe to me how your memories returned. How long did it take? Did anything at all trigger it?

Such thoughtful gifts. The lot of you do so well when it comes to making a man feel at home.

And I do hope everyone enjoys the wine.

Well, that was certainly amusing -- though disconcerting. So many in need of a little bargewater to find an excuse to celebrate. This is no way to live life. If you find cause, use it, and if you can find none, then you are welcome to invent something.

I must admit, the traditions I see mentioned and displayed here at this time of year are of much greater variance than those apparent in the early autumn. Some staples are familiar to me, though they have differing names. [Particularly the red hats, he thinks.]

For the sake of continuing to offer something soothing with the same appreciable bite after coming into the pub from the bitter cold, I will continue for the rest of the month to serve my special recipes, all of them warm, all of them delicious: Hot Apple Cider, Hot Toddies, and Spiced Mid-Winter Wine.

Adults only, naturally.

[Private to the Admiral]

I suppose we ought to get this other with, oughtn't we?

For Merlin - Some decent clothes, preferably something that does not conform to his "chipper little vagrant" motif.

For Morgana - A circlet. Something sufficiently "noble" to adorn her brow. Silver and freshwater pearl, I think will do nicely.

For the other Pub Workers - Fancy hats. None so nice as my own, however, I've a reputation to maintain, you know.

For the Barge in General - A bottle of fine wine from my Albion. The best that money could buy.

I trust everyone is resting well. And by 'everyone' I mean 'most,' of course, as that last port seems to have done a number on a great many of you. You have my well-wishes and my sympathies...such as they are. [Meaning he won't come see any of you because he doesn't want to get sick all over him in even a metaphorical sense, but he acknowledges that you lot are deathtolling and/or injured.] As of this morning, I myself have had a sitdown with our beloved Admiral to discuss a few important  matters, chief of which was my graduation.

Yes, you heard that correctly, duckies. Today you find me not necessarily a reformed man, but perhaps one better-suited to slightly more benevolent tasks. No longer an Inmate, but -- can one begin to believe it? -- a Warden in his own right, charged with the arduous task of steering some wayward soul toward his or her very own happy ending. How delightful.

Why, you may ask? Because why not? says I.

Drinks are on the house tonight -- as they often are -- in celebration of this momentous occasion. In the meantime, I have some redecorating to do.

[Have a boy, eleven or twelve-ish, who is trying not to show his nerve, in a dimly lit, red-tinged room that is noticeably Reaver's for anyone that watches his posts or has visited. The boy is brown-haired, with bright blue eyes and golden, sun-kissed skin. The slightest smudge of red draws a line from one cheek, over the bridge of his nose, to the other cheek, a sign that perhaps he'd courted the sunshine just a little too long.]

So this thing lets me talk to people? How's it work? Is it Old Kingdom magic?

Such an ordeal. I might have perhaps enjoyed myself if someone hadn't broken into my room, and if I did not already have so many things to organize in so little time.

Merlin, if you are paying attention, let me re-iterate that: someone broke into my room.

But enough of that unpleasantness. I've got a party to put together, and I am not a miracle worker. I'm so used to doing this with a staff that I did not even remember how daunting this could be. I am in need of a partnership or two or four, if people are willing. If there is to be a celebration, then much is needed, not to mention a date to be set!

Decorations! Music! Food! We're a ship of variety when it comes to talent. Surely there are a few brave souls willing to pitch in.

Come come, now. Don't be shy.

[The screen clatters to life as someone's journal appears to have been wrestled off of a desk and onto the floor. The picture rights itself just as a lithe creature tumbles into view and then sits just on camera. Reaver sits up straight on his hind legs and strokes the front of his coat as though he were worrying the wrinkles out of his usual clothing. His little paws move up to smooth the fur on his face back, murmuring distractedly to himself. He can be understood perfectly.]

Oh dear, this will not do at all...

I can hardly organize festivities in such a state. [His head arches upward, looking toward something offscreen.]

Blast it, I've left my notes up there.

[Oh. Right. He turned that on. His whiskers flatten and flare as he sniffs at the journal for just a moment, before he whips back into place, all business.]

Merlin?

Merlin, I need you.

Fellow denizens of the Barge! I've need of your input.

Let us not kid ourselves: This place is not especially kind at this time of year. Not always. But hearing so many people expound on the rather colorful traditions of their own worlds, this led me to think that perhaps we ought not to wait for the Admiral, or whatever other entity chooses to visit at this time, to decide how we spend the next thirty days.

Where I come from, the harvest is largely celebrated here, and this left me thinking: We've a greenhouse, have we not? Festive drink? Music? A multitude of cultural ideas, games, songs, stories?

Why not choose to make this month a pleasurable one, with a celebration? Would anyone here be at all interested in coming together to organize just a little something for the rest of the ship to look forward to?

A bartender.

Really,
Admiral. Just because I serve spirits on this ship does not mean it need translate over into our other jaunts.

I think I much prefer visiting places such as that, as opposed to having my home turn into it overnight. Not that it was altogether unpleasant, but this is about boundaries.

[Private to Merlin]

I suppose enough time has passed.

...That flood gave me more trouble than I expected it would. ...Just a smidgeon. Perhaps.

I blame the last port.

Do I earn some manner of consolation prize for initiating this sort of conversation with you?
tatty_bye: (peer)
The Admiral really must stop dropping us in places such as that. I would hardly attribute my particular talents toward magic of all things, but they seem to get lost whenever certain mystical aspects of other persons are nowhere to be found.

...I think I might have even gotten shorter.

Also I do believe they were testing colognes on me.

[Infirmary Spam]

[Reaver, at present, can't do much else but complain. He looks to be his usual self, if a little less pale than usual despite being ill. He's numb in most places because, last he remembers, he was being slathered in various chemicals so that reactions could be observed. He eventually succumbed to shock and died. Now, here he is.]
tatty_bye: (cane)
[It was not especially rare to see Reaver on campus grounds, if you knew where to look for him. A creature accustomed to flora and fauna but attracted to large, old, man-made structures, the school really could not be a better place for him to frequent, especially with such engaging students about for most months of the year. He introduces himself to some, is known as something of a trickster by others, a bit of a flirt toward older students and teachers, but mostly harmless -- if a bit of a distraction once you got him going. His climb to the astronomy tower happened at some point earlier in the day, and even with magic, he is one to shun hard work, or, after its undertaking, to spend much time recovering. Long into the evening, he has been asleep in one of the higher windows, draping off of the sill like a lazy pet, seeming to be not at all troubled by the height by which he dangles.]

How eventful the Barge has been of late! I almost cannot wait  to see where the Admiral will take us now that he's so forcefully returned himself to power. Nearly a full month returned, in fact. Dear me, that means we're due, does it not?

The suspense! I'm certain it would be positively killing some of you if most of you were not already dead. Admit it.

[Spam for the Pub]

[Reaver has taken up work behind the bar in the pub each evening. While he's not a born bartender, in about a week, he's definitely come to show he's good with his hands, and one cannot deny that he knows his way around a drink, the showoff.]

A new Admiral? I, for one, approve of the change. [He says this but his heart just doesn't sound like it's in it.] I wait with baited breath to see where it is we shall land.

[Private to Merlin]

It seemed prudent to ascertain whether you were still on the ship.

(ooc: So after the snow globe incident, Reaver has been holed up in his room, predominantly. He hasn't attended shifts in the kitchen, he hasn't talked to anyone, he hasn't even looked at the network.)

Mysterious visitors from the ether. How entertaining!

It makes for a blessed relief of all this menial labor.

Please tell me there are persons of interest floating about.

Well -- if nothing else I did not find my counterpart to be too unpleasant, and I suppose that is the most that one can hope for.

[Private to Merlin]

Do not trouble yourself by reading too much into what I am about to write. I only wish to put to paper what I am thinking and you seem to be the most appropriate person to share this with, if at all.

You, just as I and everyone else on this ship, have just been granted the rare opportunity to be a person who has opinions about you, as you are now. And not just opinions, but highly developed opinions. I, for one, shudder to think that actors may someday portray me as some tragic, romantic figure – the trouble is that I simply have yet to decide whether it is from dread or amusement that I quake.

What it did grant me was some clarity on some recent events that I was perhaps too distracted to note.

I want to talk to you about leaving this place, Merlin. With full seriousness.
